Neck Bay

Type Restricted Anchorage.
Description Neck Bay is a lovely anchorage with excellent vista to surrounding hills of Shaw Island and Lindeman Island. It is possible to walk across to the Eastern side of Shaw Island after taking the dinghy ashore but be careful of being caught on the beach by a falling tide.

Anchor with caution, as the shelf of shallow water extends a long way from the beach. Beyond this, the water falls quickly to depths of more than 20 metres.

Particularly in Northerly conditions, but otherwise evident is a compression wave from the strong tidal run. This can make the anchorage particularly uncomfortable at the mid tide.  If a calmer anchorage is desired in Southerly conditions, then Burning Point should be considered.

Just north of the Neck Bay is Maher Island which has a cave from the west to east side of the island which is fun to explore.
Shelter in North East to South.
Fishing Fishing is permitted - check the 100 Magic Miles for details.
Be careful of Strong currents at mid tide.
Walking Go ashore and take the short walk through the scrub to the Eastern side of the island.
Sunset Watch the sunset over Lindeman Island.
Beach The beach here is a nice place to visit. Beware of the tide to ensure you don't get caught though.
Sailing Sailing from Neck Bay up to Whitehaven takes you well clear of the islands.
Solitude This is an infrequently visited anchorage.
