Winter in the Whitsundays
Forget the big jackets and boots, pack your board shorts and thongs-the Northern Queensland Tropics are at their most magical in winter (June).
With the Australian winter comes the annual Whale migration, and we are lucky enough here in the Whitsundays to be directly in their migration path. The whales can start appearing as early as May/June. If you are lucky enough to charter in June you will be amazed at their incredible size, graceful waves and pungent breath as they dance beneath and above the water.
Don’t forget to check your 100 Magic Miles for restrictions and guidelines to whale watching in the Whitsundays.
The gentle wind of June may not excite our more experienced sailing enthusiasts, however for the beginner this is a great time to learn the ropes and gain some skills.
Small breezes do make for crystal clear water clarity perfect for all you enthusiastic snorkelers and divers (water temp generally sits around 21-23 degrees Celsius during June, I would recommend a light wet suit or Lycra snorkel suit for prolonged water exposure or if you are a cold frog like me.)
For our Motor Catamaran fans you couldn't ask for better boating conditions, light winds are a blessing when cruising around the Whitsunday Islands. Motor through the smooth waters and take in your surroundings of Azure blue water, vivid green mountains and ragged rock faces all from the flybridge of your charter boat... I am getting Goosebumps just typing about it.
With the wet season well and truly over, you can charter with confidence knowing you are about to embark on the trip of a lifetime. You will have free public moorings, sun filled days with Snorkelling/Diving opportunities to name a few of the amazing opportunities you have when on board your own bareboat.
If the Whitsundays alone is not enough to get you here, perhaps I can tempt you with the great rate Cumberland Charter Yachts are offering for the month of June 2017. Give us a call or email with your requested dates and we will send through your quote.
