Seawind Bareboat Open Day set to entertain yachties 12:02pm, Mon 16 Aug 2010Adding colour and entertainment to Meridien Marina's Airlie Beach Race Week, the Airlie Beach bareboat industry will be having an open day display on Monday the 16th of August. With a day off from the racing, the "lay-day" will see some 900 odd sailors and their entourage about Airlie Beach enjoying resort town activities or doing a few repairs.
"We are keen to talk to the yachties about the cruising delights of the Whitsundays," says John Nayler, spokesperson for the open day. "Most of the people participating in the racing don't get to experience a single night at the islands, let alone gaze in wonder over Whitehaven Beach from the hill inlet lookout. We would like the yachties to return next year and stay an extra week."
It is true that few holidays offer the diversity of a bareboat holiday. Self-driving a yacht, catamaran or motor boat to the Whitsunday islands for 5,7 or more nights offers daily choices of sailing, going the beach, visiting an island resort, snorkelling or diving on pristine reef, preparing a banquet or doing some fishing. Thousands of dedicated “bareboaters” return each year to use the 180 strong fleet of bareboat charter vessels that calls the Whitsundays home.
Held on the Northern marina B & C arms, the show will feature over 15 boats including the full suite of vessels from Seawind Catamarans who are sponsoring the event for the first time. On display will be the every popular Seawind 1000XL, award winning Seawind 1160 and new Seawind 1250 that recently celebrated over 7000 sea miles of testing. There is high demand for Seawinds in local charter fleets, so this is a great opportunity to also learn about charter boat investments within the Airlie Beach charter fleets and discover how boat ownership can make economic sense.
Adding colour and style to the open day, there will be a fashion parade held on the B&C marina arm, offering attendees the opportunity to enjoy boats and fashion in a smorgasbord of style. Themed around beach and nautical, the parade will showcase a range of local and international fashion brands at 11am.
