Cruise and Review Summer 2010 winner: Ray from Avenel, Victoria. 9:19am, Wed 26 Jan 2011
Father and family man from Avenel, Victoria is the winner of the Summer 2010 Cruise and Review competition. Three time charterers, the family including Ray, Eleanor, Callum and Georgia set sail in the peak September period on the Beneteau 43 Olivetta for 7 nights amongst the islands, and now are the lucky winners of more than $5000 from Cumberland Charter Yachts.
The mixed weather of 2010 showed itself during this week afloat and in their travels to the Whitsundays. Landing in Mackay, they had difficulties getting to the Whitsundays due to road closures.... but they seem undeterred. “...amongst the crew just shear thrill and excitement that we were really sailing.” says Ray in his review. The happy snaps from their review confirm the story, as does the reviews submitted by Eleanor and young Georgia who names herself a “mini-skipper” after mastering the waters of the Whitsundays. The family took advantage of the ability for more than one crew member to enter, increasing their chances greatly in the draw, with the tactic paying a large dividend.
There is no question that bareboat holidays in the Whitsundays hold their own in terms of value compared with Pacific islands and other holidays options with unrivalled freedom to choose your destinations and adventure amongst the 74 islands of the Great Barrier Reef, Whitsundays.
Summing up the experience Ray says of the family bareboating, “Our sailing in the Whitsunday’s has been a fabulous experience for all of the family, where we have been able to extend ourselves not only individually but also as a family.”
The family have confirmed that they are keen to return, with Ray indicating that the winning crew member would get to choose the vessel for their next adventure. We look forward to seeing them return to the Whitsundays in the future and thank each each and every contributor in the wonderful competition the yielded so many wonderful words and fabulous photographic evidence of people enjoying Australia's finest aquatic playground.
