Further $3100 for Disaster Relief 1:00pm, Fri 25 Feb 2011Helensvale resident Darren, is the winner of the February auction for the Premier's Disaster Relief Appeal. With the winning bid of $3100, Darren, wife and friends will be setting sail in June on the Fontaine Pajot Mahe 36 for 5 nights amongst the islands.
"I had already given to the appeal directly and was looking for a way to help out more. I saw the auction in Cumberland's email newsletter thought it a great way to support the cause more." said Darren.
Darren is no stranger to the Whitsundays. As a past charterer in the area with other bareboat companies, he appears to be one of those people hooked on the adventure and freedom of bareboating in the Whitsundays registering that he visits more than once a year.
Darren had passed up the prior auction for Cumberland Princess, the Perry 445p which raised $6000 for the appeal as power boating was not his "cup of tea". It seems so. Sailing since he was 6 years old, he grew up in places like Vanuatu and PNG and admits being a die hard mono sailor, while there is no question that the space and comfort of the sailing catamarans makes them ideal for sailing around the islands.
Added to his group for the holiday are close friends that he invited after winning the auction, noting they had not had a real holiday for over 6 years they nearly "burst into tears" at the news. With their charter starting June, they can expect to enjoy enjoyable experiences including sailing, islands walks, resorts, snorkelling, swimming, beaches and everything else that the number one Whitsunday adventure holiday has to offer.
