Gold Coast family undertake voyage of a lifetime!

The Petherbridge family from Paradise Point believe that skippering a 35 foot luxury yacht should be on everyone’s travel bucket lists! Robert, along with his wife and three year old daughter, embarked on their 10 day sailing voyage across the Whitsundays last year and having had an unforgettable experience are urging people to chat with the team at Cumberland Charter Yachts, when they exhibit at Australia’s first ‘The Bucket List Expo’ at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre on February 21-22nd, 2015.

This dynamic exhibition is designed to inspire visitors to expand their bucket list by bringing together an eclectic mix of inspirational exhibitors spanning from exceptional travel and exhilarating experiences to big boy’s toys and self-improvement ideas.
Established 30 years ago, Cumberland Charter Yachts is in the business of realising dreams for those who have ever longed to skipper their own bareboat around the beautiful Whitsunday Islands.  As the skipper of the vessel of their choice, from motor cruisers to luxury sailing yachts, travellers set their own pace and plan their own itinerary exploring the Whitsundays.

For the Petherbridge family, who had previous sailing experience, the opportunity to captain the vessel and ultimately dictate their own on sea adventure was the draw card. “For those who have always wanted to sail, this is the ultimate way to do it.  You are in charge and can explore and drop anchor right across the Whitsundays.   Our favourite place was Border Island, an isolated island with gorgeous beach access, where we all walked up the hill and could view all of the Whitsunday Islands from the top.  We also loved Butterfly Bay as it had a magnificent reef for snorkelling and was perfect for teaching our three year old how to snorkel.”

Before letting their clients sail off into the sunset, Cumberland Charter Yachts ensure their clients have undergone a full safety and sailing guide and will even provide a trial in navigation in required. “It’s a great way to learn if you’re a sailing novice and even if you are more experienced, hone your skills while skippering a boat,” says Robert.
At the upcoming The Bucket List Expo, the team at Cumberland Charter Yachts will be amongst the exhibitors showcasing their unforgettable adventure and will be hoping to inspire others to sign up for the ultimate bucket list trip!

Since The Bucket List concept was coined by the screenwriter of the 2007 movie of the same name, it has resonated and captured the imagination of people of all ages around the world. While Gen Y seeks to get the most out of their youth with their ‘YOLO’ mantra, Baby Boomers are taking advantage of new found empty-nest ‘me-time’ to focus on their dreams and embrace spontaneity. Regardless of whether visitors are 18 or 80, this one-of-a-kind expo caters for all who want to push the boundaries of their lifetime wish list and enhance life satisfaction.

Visitors from all walks of life can be inspired by the diverse range of exhibitors, interactive and informative seminars and a film hub showcasing must-see destinations. Think off the beaten track travel experiences like seeing the Northern Lights, learning guitar, driving a race car or even a later life career change!

Thrill-seekers looking for the ultimate adrenaline rush can find out how to jump out of a plane, float in a hot air balloon, or even learn to fly an airplane or helicopter.

For the adventurers at heart, exhibitors will showcase how visitors can explore all corners of the globe including a cruise to the world’s most spectacular natural light show at the Northern Lights, African safaris, trekking in Nepal, island hopping in the Greek Isles, 4WD-ing the terrain to the Top End of the Northern Territory or even skippering a bareboat around the spectacular Whitsunday Islands.

But not every lifestyle escapade involves travelling or pushing the boundaries of extreme limits of exhilaration. The Bucket List Expo also offers a plethora of ways to live life to the fullest including buying a race horse, a glamour makeover and photo shoot or exploring a career sea change with QLD TAFE.

With Sultanate of Oman Tourism as a major sponsor, visitors will literally have a taste of an Arabian adventure with Arabian-style food served under a Bedouin tent. All visitors will also receive a bucket list journal to document their experience and take home ideas and inspiration to help turn their bucket list into reality.
