Everyone's a Vice Commodore 1:09pm, Mon 30 May 2016
Cumberland Charter Yachts are proud sponsors of the Shag Inlet Yacht Club, The concept is to create and maintain a network for cruising yachties and individuals who enjoy boating.
Shag Islet is situated in the Gloucester Passage in the Whitsunday Region in North Queensland Australia (20 03.8 S ... 148 26.5 E). It is a small rocky islet with a beach which is exposed on the southern end on a falling tide.
There is nothing on the islet except at the annual SICYC Rendezvous when hundreds of "Vice Commodores' gather on the last week end in August each year.
Each "Vice Commodore" represents an individual nautical location ie an Island, Islet, River, Bay, about which they have some knowledge so as to be able to provide advice or assistance to other "Vice Commodores" However, in SICYC, your social commitments could be your most demanding responsibility.
As many members fall into the Prostate cancer age, all money raised from the annual rendezvous goes to the Prostate Cancer foundation. SICYC have raised over $288,000 over the past years and the total continues to climb. Now boasting 4723 members over 14 different countries worldwide.
Cumberland's own Charlie + Betty Preen have been members since the offset attending many of the rendezvous rally's (when they aren't sailing the world), CCY proudly provide a $5,000.00 charter voucher for the huge raffle held during the festivities with all proceeds going to Prostate Cancer foundation.
To maintain their exclusively non exclusive concept of boaties of all walks of life having fun, all members of SICYC, or 'Shaggers' as they are colloquially called, all become 'Vice Commodores' and share the same membership number on joining.
For a one off cost of $65 (including postage and handling), you can become a non voting "Life Member". Membership includes an SICYC "Vice Commodore" Polo, "Life Membership Card", access to the SICYC website members area, monthly newsletters, along with discounts which are made available by their growing sponsor companies. There are no ongoing fees.
Their annual Rendezvous is happening 25-28 August 2016 in Gloucester Passage, with beach parties and raffles including the CCY $5,000.00 charter voucher up for grabs.
