We've just returned from one of the best family vacations that We've experienced, sailing the Whitsunday islands We wanted our two kids (14 & 17) to experience the Reef and it seemed a long way to travel for one day trip to the outer reef, It was my wife's idea to hire a bareboat, she is a little wary of open water and boating, so I was a little surprised at her suggestion. The lure of the potential drew her in. The photos of clear blue water, the images of Whitehaven Beach and snorkelling in and around coral reefs.we were both hooked. We decided to read some reviews and get some quotes from all of the bare boat hire companies, with Cumberland in mind as having great reviews, we were not disappointed. I want to say at the outset that although I am a very hands-on practical bloke I have virtually no boating experience and have only been on a sailing boat, of any description, a few times...Cumberland are not merely a charter company they employ professional sailors and trainers, marine engineers and a highly efficient, very friendly team of office staff. Cumberland made the whole process very clear and easy to navigate They have a great website which is very informative and once you've paid a deposit you can login and get the full benefit of their wealth of experience and endless links to great information and planning ideas. Steve was very thorough in his induction and training we just did exactly as he said and our trip was totally problem free. We learned how to anchor, how to secure mooring buoys for overnight stays and most importantly how to sail and motor the boat. We hired 'Kickn Back'. After our training we dropped Steve off on Daydream Is and sailed sailed off to begin our adventure. We hand fed squid bait to a sea turtle at Stone haven, swam with a sea turtle in Butterfly Bay and snorkelled over rays, clams and coral. Best bush walk ever to Whitsunday peak. Next time...Definitely with Cumberland Charter Yachts and a larger boat and more Family!
