The 5th charter with our friends at Cumberland in September 2010 was a little different for the crew this time, in as much as we had 7 month old Jamieson join the crew as assistant to the early morning watchman, and he was very effective in ensuring we all awoke at 5.00 am to catch the morning sunrise. We had organised a special lifejacket for him, which when on, made him look like a mini Michelin man and we were  waylaid at various ports of call for photo shoots. Our departure from Daydream Island on the tender was delayed by a plethora of photographers on the ferry that had just arrived and we understood how celebrities felt when confronted by the paparazzi.

Fortunately we were on board the Perry 44.5 Cumberland Magic so we had storage space for all 7 crew and the nappies, cots, strollers high chair and other necessities to ensure the welfare of a 7 month old baby. One remarkable thing from the 7 days in the beautiful Whitsundays was the benefit of the ocean life on Jamieson. He arrived with a bad cold and left a very healthy and happy wee man with a lot more energy and a smile on his face, as did the rest of the crew.

A little bit of engine trouble so us struggle back from Whitehaven through the Solway Passage or the Washing Machine as it sometimes referred to. Fortunately it was more like a  mill pond and on one engine, all it meant was a slightly longer journey time. But before we could  organise to be somewhere Cumberland had an engineer on the way whom we met at Happy Bay and whilst we had a swim and a bit of lunch on shore he had fixed the engine and  we were back on our way. The service provided by Cumberland as always was excellent and prompt and at the end of the day the incident just added to the excitement of the whole adventure. Thank you Cumberland !
