The weather wasn't great for us on our first day on the water, but there were no complaints as we cruised through the beautiful Whitsunday Islands. The Blueberry Hill was well equipped for all weather conditions, with plenty of space to take shelter for the brief period where we copped some heavier rain. Once that passed, we put on the spray jackets which were supplied and got into some fishing. The fishing was incredible! Heaps of fish were caught across a wide variety of species. Although there were a few clouds around, the snorkelling was also good and the water temperature was perfect. The weather improved over the next couple of days and the true colours of the Whitsundays were on display. The scenery is breathtaking. We picked up moorings to do some snorkelling and go ashore during the day. The regular contact with Cumberland base was reassuring and the staff there gave excellent advice on where to go each day according to the weather conditions. The maps and information on board Blueberry Hill made navigating the area very easy. Highlights for us were Chalkies Beach, Whitehaven Beach and Butterfly Bay. We had Chalkies beach to ourselves for most of the time, with a few tourist groups coming ashore to go snorkelling. Whitehaven was fairly busy, but with plenty of room for everyone, it was definitely worth going ashore and walking up to the lookout. We used the provisioning option Cumberland offer and were glad we did so. All the food and drinks were ready for us on board and we were able to start our holiday as soon as we arrived.
By the end of our trip, we had become used to living the good life, and none of us wanted to leave.....can't wait until we can do it again!
For anyone considering this kind of holiday, I highly recommend it.
