Our French guests Annik and Alain were visiting Australia for the first time. Their dream was for sunshine, sailing on beautiful seas, snorkeling, watching whales and dolphins, relaxing, and forgetting the 9 to 5.
My wife Susie is a Queenslander and she knew where to take us a sail in the Whitsundays with Cumberland Charter Yachts.   After all we had to prove to our French visitors that there is more to this planet than just France.
Sue from Cumberland Yachts made our booking and preparations easy with all our questions answered and excellent on-line guides.
At Abel Point Marina, Terry took us straight out to sea to demonstrate the Cats facilities - a very useful introduction to currents, anchorages and general navigation tips.
We decided to avoid Race Week and head for the more remote islands.   Our weather forecasts brought us light northerlies, shifting to southerlies mid week.  Our plan was to head south to Thomas Island, wait for the southerlies, and then head north through Whitehaven passage and around Hook Island.
What were the highlights?
The sounds of wind against sails, the BBQ sizzle of our daily catch, the chink of wine glasses, and most important - constant laughter.
Hump Back Whales and their new borns werent scared to swim by us.   Watching breaching Whales was breath-taking. Whilst snorkeling at Border Island we were amazed to hear under water the melodic and beautiful sounds of whales calling an experience Ill never forget.
At Border Island a Dugong greeted us at Luncheon Bay. My guests concluded these to the most natural islands and beautiful dives theyve ever seen. We swam with Hawksbill Turtles, Angelfish, Parrotfish, Mackerel, Butterfly fish, Surgeon fish, Gropers, sea urchins, corals clams and sponges.
We caught Spanish Mackerel and Giant Trevally our canned food supply remained unopened.
Well be back sailing the Whitsundays all we need is the next shipload of visitors asking us to show them the impossible.
