I had a dream

I had a dream of sailing in the Whitsundays.  Ever since hearing about these islands it struck a chord and I felt that sailing there was something I really had to do:  not very easy from distant and landlocked Zimbabwe in Africa.  Over the years what seemed a dream became more tangible.  Two visits to Australia in 2000 and 2006 gave opportunities to envisage how it could materialize.  Finally in 2010, the chance of another holiday in Australia and a base in Airlie Beach became available!  The only thing that needed to fall into place was a last minute place on a boat.

All was well however and our Whitsunday sailing was going to be on Lazyitis, a Beneteau 323 from Cumberland Charter Yachts.  Once the boat availability was confirmed we finalized our route based on the expected weather conditions.  During our five day cruise  places which had been no more than names or photos on calendars - Nara Inlet, Cayman Bay, Tongue Bay, Hill Inlet, Whitehaven Beach, Solway Passage, Cid Harbour and Daydream Island - were experienced personally.

A daily routine emerged - raising anchor, having breakfast while making way with the motor, sailing as the winds freshened, picking up moorings, snorkeling, swimming, excursions on the tender, walking on beaches and exploring trails, setting anchor and relaxing watching another marvelous sunset.  Sightings of a whale, dugong and turtles all added to the magic.

The Beneteau is a great boat.  It sails well, is very comfortable and extremely well equipped.  For our 2 families and the 6 of us, this was a 5 day luxury cruise the 2 ladies were delighted with the galley and cooking facilities, not to mention the  head and hot water showers.

It was a wonderful experience and one to savour and reminisce on in the years ahead and truly a dream come true thanks to Cumberland and their excellent service.
