Serendipity

Chartered: 19 Oct 2010

For our 6th wedding anniversary in Oct 2010 we decided to go sailing around the Whitsundays. After meeting Steve the operations manager of Cumberland Charter Yachts at the Sydney Boat Show and having never sailed before, he suggested a sailing Cat so this is where our adventure on Serendipity began.

With the fridge packed, friends in hand, briefing complete, we were off!! After Our first stop, Cid Harbour. Surrounded by Turtles we enjoyed a great BBQ and a few cold beers.

The next day we sailed to Stonehaven Beach for some snorkeling followed by a night at Nara Inlet where a pod of dolphins circled the boat.

The following day was our wedding anniversary. A seafood dinner at Mariners restaurant Hamilton Island was the perfect way to spend the evening.

The next day a beautiful morning sail was in hand to the majestic Whitehaven Beach. It was so perfect that on our afternoon radio call in we informed base that we were spending the night there. With a chilled glass of wine and a cheese platter we sat on the bow watching the full moon light up the beach, it was as though the white sand was glowing. It was so tranquil, and the only sounds were of the water lapping against the boat and the ting as we toasted our glasses to celebrate this truly magical place.

A short sail to Tongue Bay the next day enabled us to appreciate the grandness of Whitehaven beach and Hill inlet, the view from here is absolutely breathtaking.

Another highlight of our trip was the amazing sail around the top of Hook island to Manta Ray Bay. This is where we had our first ever experience of snorkeling along side a bale of turtles.

The only problem about our 7 day sail, it was too short and had to come to an end! We intend to sail again in a few years time to see the rest of what the beautiful Whitsundays has to offer. Thanks to the team at Cumberland Charter Yachts for an experience of a lifetime!
