As one of us was limited to dinghy sailing experience prior to this trip, there was a sense of trepidation about spending 6 days cruising around the Whitsundays.

We were greeted by a friendly and patient Cumberland staff member who gave us a very comprehensive induction on Lazyitis, our home for the next 6 days.

We saw first hand the beauty and charm of the Whitsundays. We were fortunate to see some wonderful wildlife, dolphins, sea turtles, many tropical fish in some top snorkelling spots at the top of Hook Island. We were also able to enjoy the hospitality of a couple of resorts scattered about the Whitsundays where we could moor the boat and head ashore. We were very lucky to meet a few local characters and share an evening on the back deck of another Cumberland charterer's boat.

We learnt plenty about sailing and also about ourselves. There were times when the weather was a bit of a challenge, but this gave us a couple of good stories to take home!

Sailing was fairly comfortable with the main sail reefed even when it was blowing 20+ knots.

It was reassuring to have daily radio contact with the base whenever we needed it. We looked forward to our radio calls and the advice about what we could do that day given the weather conditions.

The boat itself was a joy to be on, and we were sad to leave it. We certainly weren't short of food, and through the provision service we had everything we could have needed, even glad wrap and aluminium foil.

We would love to come again and highly recommend Cumberland to anyone who is considering chartering boats in the Whitsundays. All staff had a friendly, relaxed and professional attitude.

This was our first charter and after an enjoyable and exciting six days, we hope the first of many!
