In early 2010 while hunkered down in the dark, cold Canadian winter I asked my husband what he’d like to do to celebrate his 50th birthday in November. His reply was quite simply “my ultimate wish would be to go sailing with the family”. So it seemed a return to the Whitsunday Islands was in order. And what a fantastic trip it was! 41’ Lipari Sailing Catamaran “Le Bon Reve” 7 nights and 8 days 25-30 knot winds, lashing rains & 1.5-2m sea swells 2 adults, 2 children One of the most rewarding family vacations of our life! The four of us became quite the sailing team as we navigated our way around the northern side of islands and anchorages. Although our sailing was more physical than if the weather had been all sunny and clear the benefit lay in the team-building skills we quickly acquired with the rewards of anchoring mid afternoon in picturesque sheltered inlets and bays on the northern side of the islands. The sun even accommodated our travels plans to make its daily debuts upon anchoring affording us the time to relax and explore the islands. “Le Bon Reve” was a very solid boat that served us very well in the rough weather. The large Bimini and clear plastic skirting around the table in the cockpit offered us protection from the winds and rain but also allowed spectacular unobstructed views and the freedom to move between the saloon/galley to the back deck safely and comfortably. In both our charters with Cumberland we’ve noticed that they keep their boats in top condition and take pride in offering the very best to their charter customers and as a result we can honestly say it makes all the difference to the lasting memories created on such a holiday. Thank you Cumberland for all your assistance in making our sailing holiday dreams come true! When our piggy banks and penny jars fill again we will definitely make yet another return to sailing the Whitsunday Islands and we will most certainly be back! K.
