    The Whitsundays is an area of cultural significance. The Traditional Owners of the Whitsundays region; known as the Ngaro people, inhabited the area over 9,000 years ago and continue to maintain strong connections to the area despite being forcibly relocated to Palm Island and nearby Brampton Island as laborers.

    Ngaro territory spread across the mainland and islands for some 520km2. South Molle Island was an important quarry for materials used in stone manufacture, and Nara Inlet on Hook Island has ancient paintings in a cave of which can still be viewed from a platform by any bareboa... Read More
