Barefoot? Bareback? Bareboat! 1:22pm, Mon 15 Feb 2021
Some people coin the term of navigating a sailing yacht, catamaran or power boat around the Whitsundays as a bareback charter, or barefoot charter, but in essence, the correct term is a bareboat charter.
You might certainly have the sun beaming down on your
bare back as you sail from island to island or be
bare foot standing at the helm or walking on the deck, but a
bareboat charter is essentially when you hire a boat without any crew or provisions.
Choosing your crew
The hardest part about organising a bareboat holiday (more so if it's a group of friends) is everyone sorting out what time they can get off work and anything else they have going on in their personal lives that dictates their availability to take a holiday. Once you have the dates sorted out and agreed on, head to our
website and choose a
sailing yacht,
sailing catamaran or
power catamaran suitable for the number of people you have as crew, select the number of nights you want to charter and make a firm booking, or general enquiry. All vessels on our
website have up to date availability and rates, so what you see on the website is what we will quote you. Alternatively, call us on 1800 075 101 or have a look at our
frequently asked questions.
48 hour hold
If you are certain you want to hire a bareboat, but need some time to discuss and firm up final details with the rest of the crew, we can put a 48 hour hold on a boat for you so that it can't be booked online by someone else. If the deposit is not received within 48 hours we will release the boat from the hold and put it back in to the letting pool for others to book.
Booking deposit
Once you have found a suitable boat and dates to charter, all that is required to secure the boat is a $1000 deposit. The balance of charter fees are due 60 days before the departure date which can be paid electronically (in regular intervals or all at once) or via credit card.
Once you've booked
A log in I.D will be provided for you and the crew to log in to a custom built Charter Centre, specifically relating to your booking. In the Charter Centre is helpful information about
provisioning,
watersport hire and
fishing gear hire, airport shuttle bookings and vessel manuals just to name a few.
Additional fees
As with most things, there are additional fees that are payable upon check in:
Non-refundable damage waiver ($55 p/night)$35 flat fee for LPG gas for the stove, oven, BBQ and outboard fuel$32 per person for Environmental Management Charge (contributes towards the upkeep of the 180 free moorings around the islands and maintenance of the bushwalking tracks just to name a few
