Border Island Walking Track & Lookout
We mentioned back in February this year about the new
Langford Island walking track being completed and open for public use, along with the news that there were 2 more walks and lookouts planned for Haselwood Island and Border Island, plus the expansion of a third lookout platform at Hill Inlet.
Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service have recently announced that the Border Island walk and lookout is now complete. Accessed from Cataran Bay to the north, the 500m, Class 3, stepped track is suitable for people with some bushwalking experience and will be enhanced with interpretive signage in the coming months. Allow one hour to take on the steep ascent before meandering along the island’s saddle of native grassland to enjoy diverse views from each of the lookouts.
Access by bareboat
Take in the stunning views this new walk and lookout offer by visiting on your bareboat charter. Surrounded by beautiful fringing reef the bay also offers excellent snorkelling and best done in neap tides and light southerly winds.
Reef protection buoys have been installed so ensure you don't anchor on the shore side of these, and with a depth between 6-9 meters with a sand and coral bottom, it's best to anchor in 15 knots from the east or up to 25 knots from the south-west to south-east. Alternatively pick up one of the moorings availble.
Head to shore with your tender which is best to access at high tide, but if you do go ashore at low tide, make sure to wear shoes and avoid treading on any coral.
