Career Development Opportunity - We need you! 12:33pm, Fri 19 Feb 2021

Do you have a QLD Recreational Boating Licence?
Do you hold a Marine Radio Operators Certificate?
Are you looking to develop your career further?
Are you looking to supplement your income after JobKeeper ends?

If you've answered 'yes' to all of these, then we need you!

What has changed?

Legislation by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (GBRMPA) Regulation 2019 states that a person is appropriately qualified to be a Bareboat Briefer if they hold a current recreational boat licence and a Restricted Radio Operators Certificate. Previously, a Coxswains Certificate was required.

Why we need you

Cumberland Charter Yachts has faired well through COVID-19 and are fully booked for 2021 with back to back charters. We are in urgent need of Briefers to induct our guests on to our boats and there is a shortage of qualified Bareboat Briefers in the Whitsundays.

What is the opportunity on offer?

We are seeking expressions of interest from those looking to develop their career further by attending the next Bareboat Briefer Training held at the Whitsunday Maritime Training Centre at the Whitsunday Sailing Club. Once the theory has been completed, we will have you participate in a practical brief on board one of our boats which will complete your qualification. This gives you an accredited attainment to further your career and supplement your income with additional work opportunities.

What happens after the course?

We will commence scheduling suitable dates for you to conduct briefings on our boats throughout 2021.

What does a typical day of a Bareboat Briefer look like?

Typical briefs commence at 8:30am taking place on board a boat with up to 10 people. Covering the operation of the boat, the permitted charter area in the Whitsundays and a practical demonstration by the charterer that they can safely pick up a mooring, lay an anchor and maneuver the boat to hoist sails, tack and jibe. You will need to operate the boat in close proximity to other boats in and out of the marina for the charterer. The Briefing concludes at approximately 12pm.

What experience do I need?

Experience handling and maneuvering boats, local area knowledge and sailing experience advantageous.
