Customer advice for ex Tropical Cyclone Owen 4:10pm, Fri 14 Dec 2018
Dear Guests,
Ex-tropical cyclone Owen is located over the eastern tropical inland and is expected to shift southeastwards and move offshore of the Townsville coast through today. It will then most likely lie offshore of the Mackay coast or Whitsunday Islands on Monday before slowly shifting north over the Coral Sea through Tuesday and Wednesday. At this stage ex-tropical cyclone Owen is not expected to redevelop into a tropical cyclone but the situation will be monitored carefully. Winds through northern coastal waters are strongly dependent on the movement of ex-tropical cyclone Owen.
The Regional Harbour Master (RHM) may closed the Whitsunday Pilotage Area (your charter area) and recall all vessels back in to Abell Point Marina or Hamilton Island Marina. No new charters would be permitted to leave the marina in this instance.
Once safely tied up in dock, you will be permitted to stay on board your vessel unless the situation develops further reaching evacuation level. In this instance, CCY staff will provide you with contact details for local accommodation.
Please ensure you have adequate travel insurance to cover you in a severe weather event.
You will be provided with a letter for your insurance company for any charter time lost due to marina closures or cyclone.
The system is fast moving and we anticipate resuming normal charter departures from Monday the 17/12/18.
We will provide further advice in due course. Or you can monitor this news page or
