The Whitsundays are blessed to have 2 domestic airports in the region; the
Whitsunday Coast Airport (Proserpine) and
Great Barrier Reef (Hamilton Island) Airport. Whether you are flying from overseas or an Australian capital city, the flight routes both direct and connecting makes travelling to the Whitsundays easy.
Whitsunday Coast Airport (Proserpine)
The Whitsunday Coast Airport (Proserpine) is located along the Bruce Highway, approximately 10 minutes to Proserpine, and 25 minutes to Airlie Beach.
Jetstar and
Virgin Australia currently service the airport with direct and connecting flights to and from Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.
For up to the minute flight information for arrivals and departures at the Whitsunday Coast Airport, view the
flight information here.
Inside the airport terminal adjacent to the luggage carousel is an information desk and a number of service desks, where you can pick up your pre-arranged transport or, make bookings if you've left this detail to the last minute.
Heart of the Reef Shuttles,

Great Barrier Reef (Hamilton Island) Airport
Located on
Hamilton Island, the airport is serviced by
Virgin Australia,
Jetstar and
Qantas Link with direct flights from Cairns, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. If you have arranged to start your charter at Hamilton Island, you can hop on the island shuttle bus which meets every flight and have it take you to the marina. It's a quick 5-minute transfer and will cost you $8 per person.
If starting your charter from
Airlie Beach, at the arrival area of the airport where you pick up your luggage, you will find the
Cruise Whitsundays check-in counter where you receive your ferry ticket and luggage tags, before making your way down the jetty to board the ferry, only 100m from the arrivals area.
Cruise Whitsundays meet every arriving and departing flight offering a seamless and hassle-free option to get to Airlie Beach. The ferry transfer takes approximately 50 minutes taking you on a nice scenic route through the islands before arriving at
Port of Airlie, centrally located in Airlie Beach and has a complimentary phone to call a local taxi if there isn't already one there waiting.
When deciding which airport to fly into, take into consideration the cost of the flight, the cost of the transfers to Airlie Beach, and the time it takes to get you to where you need to be. Either way though, getting here is easy and you're spoilt for choice.
