Ultimate guide to bareboating in the wet season 11:21am, Tue 29 Jan 2019
Typically, between the months of December and March, the Whitsundays welcomes the wet season, giving everything a healthy boost after the dry season. The grass is greener, rainforests are lush and waterfalls are flowing. Don't let a little rain deter you from bareboating in the early months of the year, you'll find the best charter rates and there's still plenty to do and warm enough to still get around in your shorts and thongs. Plus, it doesn't rain EVERY day and the rain is usually sort lived. Here's the ultimate guide to bareboating during the wet season:
Waterfalls
In the very neck of Nara Inlet on Hook Island is a waterfall. Jump in the tender and climb it from the bottom til you reach the falls and rock pools. Don't forget to take your camera, swimsuit and towel. Once you're back on the mainland, head out to Cedar Creek Falls for an even more impressive waterfall.
Go for a bushwalk
There are over
24 different bushwalks on the Whitsunday islands alone with most offering stunning views from the top. Put on your walking shoes, grab some water and go exploring. Why not pack a small picnic and enjoy it with the views when you get to the top?
Go for a snorkel
Even though it's raining, it doesn't stop you from exploring the underwater world and go for a snorkel. You're going to get wet anyway so you may as well jump in and check out the marine life.
Visit island resorts
The most popular island resort to visit is Hamilton Island. We can book you a birth in the marina for a fee and give you the opportunity to use the resort facilities. Other island resorts usually charge a fee to use their moorings, with some allowing you to come ashore if pre-booked and you dine in their restaurant.
Go fishing
You can bring your own fishing gear, or you can hire what you need from us for $12 per day. Catch the nights dinner, or just feed the fish with all the bait you use and the fish you don't catch! Be sure to understand where you can and cannot fish (or download the 'Eye on the Reef' app that works without mobile coverage and tell you is you are in a no fishing zone or not)
Play board games, read a book or watch DVD's
In the Cumberland Charter Yachts office is a library full of books, DVD's ad board games that you can borrow complimentary, during your charter. Just remember to bring them back afterwards.
Don't let a little precipitation get in the way of you doing a bareboat charter during the wet season. Have a look on our website for
