Hamilton Island Endurance Series - Hilly Half Marathon

Pristine white beaches. Crystal clear waters. A breathtaking mountainous interior. Hamilton Island is best known as a place to relax. But it is also the perfect place to push yourself in paradise. The Hamilton Island Endurance Series spans four endurance events from May through to November each year.

The Hamilton Island Hilly Half Marathon, Great Whitehaven Beach Run, Hamilton Island Triathlon, Junior Triathlon and splash'n Dash and Whitehaven Beach Ocean Swim will test athletes on every level. Do them all or just do one. Race Hard. Recover Harder. The challenging 21 kilometer route takes participants along roads, fire trails and walking tracks through Hamilton Island's undulating interior. There’s a race for everyone; the marathon for the fearless, a half marathon, a three by seven kilometer relay and three different distance options for the kids. This is a perfect challenge for the whole family.

Airlie Beach Marathon Festival

The Airlie Beach Marathon Festival is held annually in one of the most popular holiday destinations in the world. It is the Whitsunday’s premier running event and the largest onshore mass participation event in the region. It caters for athletes of all ages (0-100) and different levels of fitness.

The event has runs of varying distances from a one kilometre family fun run through to a full marathon. All these runs are off road along boardwalks and footpaths giving the participants breathtaking views over the ocean out to the famous Whitsunday islands. All events use the same course, providing spectators and supporters the opportunity of seeing their athlete on more than one occasion.



Great Barrier Reef Festival

The Great Barrier Reef Festival, proudly supported by Cruise Whitsundays, celebrates what it means to live in the Whitsunday region at the Heart of the Great Barrier Reef. The region's favourite festival will celebrate 20 years in 2020 and will take over the vibrant tourist hub of Airlie Beach from July 30 - August 2.

The 4-day event is a delicious combination of family fun, environmental and art initiatives, destination events, local food and fashion and some of the biggest parties in the tropical north. The 2020 festival will feature a fun-filled program of events including the Coral Sea Marina Resort Lantern Parade, Great Barrier Reef interactive workshops and installations, a Comedy Gala, massive reef-themed street parade, main street car show, a wearable art parade and Recyclable Regatta and free family fun activities on the Airlie Foreshore.

The not-to-be-missed Fireworks on the Foreshore event will ignite the skies on Friday Jul 31, the biggest night on the Airlie calendar, complete with night markets, food stalls, carnival rides and performers and the Foreshore Pop-up Bar. The Beats on the Beach foreshore stage will be pumping out live music throughout the weekend with a fantastic line-up of artists soon to be announced.



Airlie Beach Race Week Festival Of Sailing

Location: Whitsunday Sailing Club

The Whitsunday Sailing Club is located in Airlie Beach, gateway to the Central Region of Queensland‘s Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. It is also the Gateway to the Whitsunday Islands and fast becoming known as one of the World’s premier sailing destinations. Airlie Beach is also home to one of the largest yacht racing regattas in Australia, Airlie Beach Race Week and its onshore Festival of Sailing.

Hosted by the Whitsunday Sailing Club and now in its 32nd year, Airlie Beach Race Week is a seven day event that attracts entrants from all over Australia and overseas. Offshore the Regatta offers classes from IRC competitive racing through to cruising divisions attracting around 1450 competitors, officials and volunteers.

Onshore the Festival of Sailing, is the Whitsunday Coasts’ most significant public event, presenting seven days and nights of high profile, entertainment and social activities. In 2019 attendances peaked at over 11,000. In 2020 the onshore Social Program will include free live entertainment food stalls, a beer & food pairing, a long lunch and wine tastings.



Hamilton Island Race Week

Hamilton Island Race Week is one of the world’s most famous yachting events - and every year, brings spectators and yachties from all around the globe to the Whitsundays for an exciting line up of on and offshore events. Every August, spectators and yachties from around the globe sail to Hamilton Island for Hamilton Island Race Week - Australia’s largest offshore keelboat regatta.



Whitsunday Trail Festival


Date: 12 - 13 September
Location: Airlie Beach Foreshore

Run the 10 kilometre, 28 kilometre and 57 kilometre trail run along the scenic Conway Ranges in the Whitsundays. The race precinct is on the beautiful Airlie Beach foreshore adjacent to the Pacific Ocean.



Australian Superyacht Rendezvous 2020


Date: 15 - 18 October
Location: Coral Sea Marina

Recognised internationally as the South Pacific’s leading superyacht event, the Australian Superyacht Rendezvous – which has been staged on the Gold Coast since its inception in 2017 will make an exciting move to the Great Barrier Reef with invitation-only events staged across the three days for attending international superyacht industry heavyweights, superyacht owners and buyers, captains, international brokers, tourism and industry professionals plus media.

The prestigious annual Australian Superyacht Rendezvous showcases the Australian superyacht industry, its capabilities and economic potential along with Australia’s destination appeal, marking it as a uniquely intrepid travel destination for superyacht charters for luxury holiday-makers. Around $250 million worth of Australia’s leading superyachts – those for charter or sale in excess of 24 metres in length -are expected to participate in the Australian Superyacht Rendezvous – Great Barrier Reef edition.



Airlie Beach Festival Of Music

Set for November 6 to 8 Nov 2020, and now in its eighth year, the Airlie Beach Festival of Music is fast becoming one of Queensland’s premier live music events. Only in Airlie Beach can you see 74 bands alongside 74 islands in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef.

With jaw-dropping sea views from the main tent at the Whitsunday Sailing Club, it’s a party like no other in a tropical paradise. Watch big name acts and discover new talent - there is something for every musical taste. Experience a town coming alive to the sound of music.

With live entertainment spread throughout 18 venues, the atmosphere is electric. Everything is easy to get to and fully equipped – there’s no need to bring camping chairs. Come for all three days or a single day; buy a standard ticket or a VIP pass. Tickets are available on the festival website.

The Lions Airlie Beach Community Markets are located on the foreshore of Airlie Beach, every Saturday morning. Complete with local produce, art, craft and all locally made souvenirs, it is a great place to spend some time, have a coffee or purchase a unique gift.

The Saturday Markets in Airlie Beach are a great way to kick off a fabulous day in Airlie Beach. In addition, the Lions Club conducts Cruise Ship Markets at the Airlie Beach foreshore each time there is a cruise ship in town.
