Airlie Beach Race Week Festival Of Sailing

Date: 6 - 13 August
Location: Whitsunday Sailing Club

The Whitsunday Sailing Club is located in Airlie Beach, gateway to the Central Region of Queensland‘s Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. It is also the Gateway to the Whitsunday Islands and fast becoming known as one of the World’s premier sailing destinations. Airlie Beach is also home to one of the largest yacht racing regattas in Australia, Airlie Beach Race Week and its onshore Festival of Sailing.

Hosted by the Whitsunday Sailing Club and now in its 32nd year, Airlie Beach Race Week is a seven day event that attracts entrants from all over Australia and overseas. Offshore the Regatta offers classes from IRC competitive racing through to cruising divisions attracting around 1450 competitors, officials and volunteers.

Onshore the Festival of Sailing, is the Whitsunday Coasts’ most significant public event, presenting seven days and nights of high profile, entertainment and social activities. In 2019 attendances peaked at over 11,000. In 2020 the onshore Social Program will include free live entertainment food stalls, a beer & food pairing, a long lunch and wine tastings.

Hamilton Island Race Week

Hamilton Island Race Week is one of the world’s most famous yachting events - and every year, brings spectators and yachties from all around the globe to the Whitsundays for an exciting line up of on and offshore events. Every August, spectators and yachties from around the globe sail to Hamilton Island for Hamilton Island Race Week - Australia’s largest offshore keelboat regatta.

Whitsunday Trail Festival

Date: 12 - 13 September
Location: Airlie Beach Foreshore

Run the 10 kilometre, 28 kilometre and 57 kilometre trail run along the scenic Conway Ranges in the Whitsundays. The race precinct is on the beautiful Airlie Beach foreshore adjacent to the Pacific Ocean.

Whitsundays Art Festival

Date: 3 - 5 October
Location: Airlie Beach Foreshore - Fairy Tree Park

The inaugural Whitsundays Arts Festival 3-5 October on the Airlie Beach Foreshore is a grand celebration of our creative community and inspiring environment. A line-up of musicians, many local along with some from interstate, will take the stage on Saturday 3 October at 4 until 10pm, Sunday from 10am to 9pm and Monday from 10am to 1pm.

Suspended flying fish created from recycled materials by Atherton Tablelands GhostNet artist Sue Ryan and local artists will illuminate Fairy Tree Park. The magnificent trees in the park will be decorated with woven circles made from recycled crab pots by local artists under the guidance of renowned Townsville fibre artist Marion Gaemers.

Schoolchildren from Bloomsbury to Collinsville, Bowen, Cannonvale and Proserpine will make lanterns to parade on opening night lead by performers from Melbourne group Drum Out. Public workshops for the general community in lantern making will be held on 28 and 29 September.

Children are invited to make drums from recycled materials in sessions lead by Melbourne drummer Collin Boggarts and perform on the beach on Saturday in a choreographed drumming parade. Workshops in many mediums including photography, spray art, fabric dying, weaving and painting will be held on site and handmade markets and an arts hub will guarantee an unforgettable festive seaside event.

An exhibition of wearable art will be open from Friday to Monday 3-5 October.

Australian Superyacht Rendezvous 2020

Date: 15 - 18 October
Location: Coral Sea Marina

Recognised internationally as the South Pacific’s leading superyacht event, the Australian Superyacht Rendezvous – which has been staged on the Gold Coast since its inception in 2017 will make an exciting move to the Great Barrier Reef with invitation-only events staged across the three days for attending international superyacht industry heavyweights, superyacht owners and buyers, captains, international brokers, tourism and industry professionals plus media.

The prestigious annual Australian Superyacht Rendezvous showcases the Australian superyacht industry, its capabilities and economic potential along with Australia’s destination appeal, marking it as a uniquely intrepid travel destination for superyacht charters for luxury holiday-makers. Around $250 million worth of Australia’s leading superyachts – those for charter or sale in excess of 24 metres in length -are expected to participate in the Australian Superyacht Rendezvous – Great Barrier Reef edition.
