Why the Whitsundays is at its Best in Winter? 11:09am, Mon 07 Jun 2021

Forget the big jackets and boots, pack your board shorts and thongs - North Queensland is at its most magical during May - September. Think clear blue skies daily, calm seas, a crisp sunny breeze followed by cool evenings under bright stars. The perfect time to go bareboating in the Whitsundays.

Sunny days perfect for swimming and cool evenings perfect for curling up with a cosy jumper on the back deck of your bareboat as you cook up a feast on the BBQ and tell tales of the days' adventures.

With the winter months comes the annual humpback whale migration as they leave the cold waters of the Antarctic and migrate north up the east coast of Australia stopping off in the Whitsundays to give birth to their young. Shallow water (by their standard) and water temperature averaging 20 degrees Celsius, it's the perfect place to bring their young into the world.

The whales can start appearing as early as June/July and stay until Aug/Sept. If you are chartering during these months you'd be considered unlucky if you didn't encounter a whale sighting. See them afar by their 'blow' as it sprouts from the surface of the ocean, or see them up close and personal as if you could almost reach out and touch them - a welcome hazard by most people.

Inquisitive in their nature, they are known to come close by your bareboat to say hello but be aware of the restrictions of your vessel movements and distance allowed while sighting these majestic creatures.

Light breezes make for perfect sailing conditions, small tidal range makes for crystal clear water and those that prefer a power catamaran; calm seas to get you from A to B.

What are you waiting for? Inquire today and go bareboating in the Whitsundays.

Don't call it a dream, make it a plan.
